Should we start an IRC channel for NT?

It's much easier then shoutbox, and you can have longer chats without the prunes and not as laggy as the shoutbox

You can get direct answers right away with people online, and tell ppl to read ur posts on IRC

Admins and mods will have extra power on IRC channel to control what goes on

Cussing and flooding can result in bans/kicks from channel (which could be a good thing if we implement this)

It would be on the same server as CEF, so people can get help from there as well

Topics can be changed by mods and admins for further advertisement of certain things

Overall, i think it's a real good idea...the onli problem i see of it...is getting the people to get into the IRC

I've already set up a tutorial for a different game/site and it's pretty easy to use/install...

What you guys think? I say it's way easier to manage what gets said and stuff in the IRC channel...the SB can still be implemented on the site for other purposes, like shoutouts and stuff....but so when ppl talk on IRC, it actually wont lag up NT >.<

ummmm... dont understand much (actually to lazy to read it... :P) but if u think its better than the crappy shoutbox that we have... GO AHEAD, u got my vote on IRC.

guys, it would be like this :

Basicly a giant shoutbox...
and everyone can clear out their own screens, just like pruning, but without pruning everyone else....

also, people can afk there, and others can send Private messages to others
while they are on

idea already been given by poop . quite long ago. but was not persued due to some reason. ask nakz for details. i personally thought and think it is a good idea

actually, it was proposed by me before.......WAY long ago...i asked nakz, and he said to make a poll on it...so i did >.<

Nakz just said the same thing i said, that prolly not enuf ppl will go in it...thats the problem...

The issue has always been the fact that most "noobs" will not bother to learn about Internet Relay Chat. However, I think that the power, elites, mods, should be the ones to look into whether or not it is something they would like to indulge in. The reality is that it would be optimal instead of the shoutbox which consumes bandwidth and idles relatively quickly forcing you to refresh in order to get updated posts.

Much like anyone who is anyone knows, IRC isn't as difficult as it appears to be.

Mmm besides people willbe too lazy to enter another site in their browser. I mean u have msn and shoutbox I think it would be inactive. Cuz u cant force anyone to use the irc chan =/

IRC goes beyond sites. It's a chat protocol which uses its own client. However, as discussed before when the shoutbox was going to be removed for good, there are java applets that can be embedded into web pages to facilitate joining. However, the shoutbox was saved and as a result we never continued pursuing the establishment of an irc home.

IRC goes way back and I use it primarily for the warez scene and have been a member of a few groups, only because I provided a nice "dump" and a few UNIX boxes, oh yea this was all offered on 100Mbit connections (.edu)

. It is also one of the nastiest mediums for trojans, viruses, spyware etc... If operators are not knowledgeable their channel(s) can easily be flooded, spammed, or even worse the channel gets hijacked! Education, just know what you are doing.
